Hoping to use the "George Washington Carver" pattern, with the name of a woman scientist (physics/astronomy) or mathematician. Eg, Ada Lovelace would be Ada L. Sittig.

Would it be too strange to give her a boy's name, like James?

In case it's actually a boy…

Apparently, yes. Jodi however would be happy with a name starting with J. From Popular baby names:

Jocelyn
Josie
Juliet
Jamie
Jane
Jacqueline
